- Negotiate long-term contracts outside of commodity management, staying within set limitations and authority to secure advantageous business partnerships in terms of quality, availability, and cost.
- Plan and coordinate deliveries to optimize inventories to support production schedules and business needs, collaborating with forecasting, planning, commodity, and shipping/receiving teams.
- Review purchase requisitions, consult with vendors for product details such as price, availability, and delivery schedules, and assess quotes for accuracy and competitive approaches.
- Implement best practices in processes and procedures by working with functional leaders in related product lines.
- Coordinate vendor corrective actions and collaborate with SQE and suppliers to enhance quality.
- Actively participate in the business unit and contribute to metrics such as CIP, PPV, unit cost, UPPH, PA, and cycle time, ensuring decisions align with quality, service, and cost principles.
- Suggest pricing strategies to meet departmental operating objectives.
- Establish and maintain mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to encourage feedback and continuous enhancement, often serving as the primary contact for vendors.
- Research and recommend new vendors.
- Act as a purchasing expert for both internal and external customers due to extensive purchasing and product line operations knowledge.
- Provide guidance and support to junior members of the purchasing team.
- Monitor supplier performance, communicate, and take necessary steps to uphold high supplier performance levels.
- Update supplier databases as needed.
- Generate intricate reports and perform data analysis to proactively address issues or plan ahead.
- Collaborate with inventory and warehouse management to resolve any challenges.
- Lead special projects as needed to cut costs, enhance efficiency, and more.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or equivalent field.
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in purchasing and commodity management.
- 3 years of experience with purchasing and commodity management software, along with negotiating terms and agreements.
