The Opportunity
This position works out of our Alajuela location.

The Business HR Director leads the Human Resources function for all the manufacturing sites in Costa Rica (currently Abbott Vascular, Electrophysiology and Structural Heart, with 5'000 employees aprox) including but not limited to recruitment and employment, employee relations, communication, Organizational Development, training and special projects.

Develops and implements strategies and systems to develop and reward organizational talent, facilitate intra-company communications and feedback systems, and ensure that people management systems align with the Plants' objectives.

Responsible for development, administration, communication and enforcement of policies and programs covering all disciplines of Human Resources.

Partner with Management (sites, and also Divisional HR and HR Practice centers) to implement human resources programs, resolve employee relations issues and interpret policies.

This position will have a heavy emphasis on recruitment, selection, employee relations and training and development programs but is also expected to have knowledge of benefits and compensation programs in the Costa Rica plant.


What You'll Do

  • Manage the HR representatives/generalists that act as contact persons for all HR issues. This may include attendance at group management meetings, disseminating HR communications, policies, and values to the groups.
  • Individually and through the generalist team, assists management with employee relations issues including but not limited to policy interpretation, discipline, and performance coaching
  • Assist/advise/influence site managers with HR related issues including compensation discussions, policy interpretation
  • Liaise with Divisional HR to implement the División's strategy in the respective plants, according to the needs and reality of Costa Rica.
  • Together with the Practice centers, develops and executes recruiting strategies. Leads the implementation of Performance Reviews, succession planning, high potential talent reviews and workforce planning process, Compensation and Benefits, development and implementation of employee and leadership development programs and training.
  • Facilitate the development of departmental goals and objectives and the periodic HR goal attainment assessment within the CR plants.
  • Participates in the annual HR budgeting process and manages to applicable budgets in his/her area.
  • Other work as assigned, including but not limited to managing and developing corporate HR initiatives as assigned by the Latam Senior HR Director.
  • May assist the Senior Director of Human Resources
  • LATAM in the administration of HR programs in other Latin American countries.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required /
  • 7+ years' experience in a variety of HR discipline functions with at least five plus year's management experience.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of HR laws and regulations.
  • Prior experience in a recruiting/interviewing role in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Must be computer literate and able to use MS products (Word, Excel) with little training.
  • Experience consulting on a wide variety of employee relations situations.
  • Advanced English proficiency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred in Human Resources or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of benefit and compensation plans is preferred.
