    Role Overview:

    The Senior Supplier Engineer position focuses on all facets of supplier selection, process modifications, and material changes necessary for value enhancement projects, new product introductions, and ongoing projects for Global Sourcing Category teams. This role involves managing suppliers for Boston Scientific products across various divisions.

    Your daily responsibilities will include participating in the new product development (NPD) core team, overseeing manufacturing deliverables at the supplier level, and supporting sustaining projects.

    The Materials Supplier Engineering team is tasked with providing technical leadership and resolving engineering challenges to achieve annual material cost reduction targets. This role serves as a liaison between suppliers and Boston Scientific teams to manage and drive engineering projects that yield financial benefits.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with global suppliers to comprehend materials manufacturing processes and technologies, acting as a technical expert to ensure consistent quality and reliability throughout the product lifecycle.
    • Engage actively as a technical lead within Global Sourcing category teams, establishing and executing objectives, including material cost reductions.
    • Serve as the technical representative on category teams, contributing to strategies and achieving both short-term and long-term goals.
    • Identify and develop new or existing supply sources in collaboration with Global Sourcing colleagues, working with cross-functional teams to explore insourcing and outsourcing opportunities.
    • Formulate negotiation strategies with Global Sourcing colleagues to maximize value-added initiatives.
    • Evaluate the value and financial implications of new business opportunities and engineering projects.
    • Proactively identify and implement material cost reduction initiatives (Material VIP) with suppliers across all tiers of the supply chain to meet organizational goals.
    • Lead troubleshooting processes, conduct supplier process assessments, and implement lean manufacturing tools at supplier facilities.
    • Research and assess new and existing material technologies for future product applications or to enhance the quality and reliability of current products.
    • Conduct risk assessments on sourced materials and develop capacity and capability at suppliers, planning and executing risk mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of sourcing.
    • Work with suppliers and category team members to investigate material issues or supply constraints.
    • Collaborate with R&D to research, develop, design, and evaluate materials for medical device applications.
    • Partner with manufacturing, quality, and Sustaining R&D/DA/PM to implement changes initiated by Boston Scientific or suppliers, including improvement projects and compliance initiatives.
    • Act as a liaison between functions and core teams, compiling experimental results and communicating impacts to project teams.
    • Lead or participate in large-scale projects, responsible for scoping, resource definition, approval, budgeting, specification, execution, qualification, and handover as necessary.
    • Continuously monitor and report on business performance metrics, proactively identifying and resolving related issues.
    • Contribute to current product support through process capability studies, process development, Six Sigma initiatives, and documentation.
    • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Supplier Engineers I and II on the team.
    • Develop and manage departmental budgets, including headcount, overhead/project expenditures, and capital planning/control.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety and product quality by adhering to the Quality Policy and all documented quality processes and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Materials, Chemical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electronic, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
    • English proficiency required: 85% - 90%.
    • Desired skills: Tools (Statistics, Technical Manuals, Kaizen, Six Sigma), Process Improvement, Problem Solving, AutoCAD, and Solid Works.
    • Project management experience with the ability to influence cross-functional global teams across quality, operations, R&D, and sourcing.
    • Experience in the medical device or regulated industry is preferred.
    • Previous experience working with suppliers is advantageous.
    • Ability to work independently, demonstrating organization and self-motivation.
    • Capability to manage multiple projects while collaborating with internal and external teams.
    • Strong results orientation and proactive approach are essential.
    • Self-motivated individual with a commitment to learning and applying knowledge to achieve results.
    • Effective communicator with strong presentation skills, able to convey information appropriately to various audiences.
    • Desirable knowledge and experience in material testing.
    • Experience with metal or plastic components is a plus.
    • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international).
    • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in a similar role.
