    Job Description

    As part of the HR Services operations team, our Senior Payroll Tax Analyst ensures the accurate, timely review and reconciliation of federal, state/provincial, and local payroll taxes. This includes withholding tax, unemployment tax, and disability insurance tax for a large employer with multiple legal entities across the US and Canada. This position is also responsible to support tax audits, agency inquiries, and notices related to payroll taxes and garnishments in addition to responding to and resolving complex associate issues and questions across the region.

    The successful candidate will work closely with the rest of the payroll team and ADP to ensure timely, accurate payments of payroll taxes; as well as support journal entries and cost allocations for the business in coordination with our finance organization. The position is responsible to conduct assessments, research payroll tax laws, and to coordinate with ADP and governmental agencies to support the overall tax compliance for the company.

    Responsibilities:

  • Resolve complex employee tax questions and issues and ensure the education of the HR services team to triage and respond to simpler questions and issues
  • Research and respond to monthly variances related to payroll and tax accounts
  • Reconcile quarterly and annual payroll tax reports for federal agencies, states, provinces, and other local entities
  • Ensure that annual tax statements and adjustments are posted timely and accurately for employees, including those on international assignments
  • Research and respond to federal, state, provincial, and local tax notices, and support and manage the response for tax audits and jurisdictional inquiries
  • Research required payroll taxes for federal agencies, states, provinces, and local entities and ensure these jurisdictions are updated on time in our on-premise payroll system (SAP) for proper employee and company withholding
  • Provide specialist support for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures as required
  • Qualifications

    Desired Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience with Multi-state/Provincial full cycle payroll processing, including tax withholding and general ledger entry.
  • A demonstrated understanding of payroll including garnishments, bonus payments, special payments, and payroll taxes for the US (required) and Canada (preferred)
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in English; Spanish language competence also desirable
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail with experience identifying, evaluating, and supporting process improvements
  • Experience working with SAP and ADP Tax preferred
  • Experience with Alteryx, Microsoft PowerBI, Power Automate, or other similar desktop-level automation solutions desirable.
  • Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of payroll tax and payroll process experience with multi-state, and local payroll tax experience required
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely at a professional level, both orally and in writing, in English (C1)
  • Microsoft Excel at an Intermediate to Advanced skill level for data analysis, forecasting, and reconciliation
