The Opportunity
This position works out of our Alajuela location in the Electrophysiology (EP) business.

In Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) business, we're advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.


As the
Enviromental, Health & Safety Section Leader, you'll be responsible under general direction for the on going management and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health and Safety, Sustainability and EHS compliance programs.


What You'll Do

  • Act as a cross functional change agent to drive and sustain EHS business process improvement for the site business units in support to the corporate division EHS strategy.
  • Act as an EHS mentor, role model and coach in the implementation of EHS excellence and best practices.
  • Lead the continuous improvement process of ALL EHS Management Systems. Assuring planning, registration, preparation and successful results within all relevant EHS audits, assessments, competitions in and out the country.
  • Supervise the directly / indirectly assigned EHS staff in order to stablish, support and maintain the EHS programs for Abbott.
  • Reports to local EHS senior management on the performance and outcome of the EHS, Sustainability and Compliance programs for review.
  • Develops and articulate an strategic vision for areas of responsibility. Leads assigned portfolio by developing, communicating, and building consensus for goals and programs thar support division, business unit and company objectives. Direct communications about EHS strategies, and objectives with Abbott.
  • Direct the establishing, maintaining and continuously improvement process of all EHS programs. Assure full compliance with all safety and environmental permits and licenses required for Abbott site operations, by determining and leading the safety & health risk assessment and support the EHS team in developing risk control measures.
  • Lead the process of establishing, maintaining and continuously improve all compliance, conformance, and assurance process to meet with EHS regulations and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Environmental, Health and Safety
  • Postgraduate diploma in Environmental, Health and Safety.
- +8 years leading EHS Management Systems
- +8 in years leading EHS regulatory and corporate standards compliance.

  • Experience developing EHS policies and procedures in EHS, assuring their alignment with governmental and corporate regulations.
  • ISO 14001, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certified
  • Project Management skills. People leading skills.
  • Critical hazards control, sound technical knowledge; Must have solid knowledge in OSHA Industry standards, Ergonomics and Environmental Management.
  • Experience with emergency response, life safety and LOTO/Machine guarding.
  • Computer skills. Use PowerPoint, Excel spreadsheets, and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Proven track record of leading highperformance teams. High accountability.
  • Advance Command of English / Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Incorporated in The Colegio de Ingenieros y Arquitectos
  • Must be able to work with all levels of management and staff.
  • Demonstrate leadership, ownership, time management and teamwork skills, customer focused orientation and decisionmaking skills. Desired previous experience in medical industry.
