The Machinist is the entry point into the Tool & Die job structure. A person with little or no experience will perform basic concepts of precision metalworking. There are five skills required for this level.


The five skills are:
Tooling Setup, Saw Operation, Manual Milling, Manual Lathe and Manual Grinding.

These skills will form the basic foundation of skills that will be required for all other Tool & Die positions.

The skills will be applied at the Machinist level to a selected set of toolroom tasks. The employee may be required to perform additional tasks not specified below.

The employee must be able to perform the following tasks:

• Basic machining operations using mills, lathes and grinders
• Saw material to written specifications according to established procedures
• Setup tools for CNC operations from tool list
• Perform preventative maintenance from written instructions.
