The Transfer Admissions Counselor/Recruiter performs various functions under the supervision of the Associate Director for Student Outreach and Recruitment (SOAR) and receives work-lead direction from the Lead Admissions Counselor/Recruiter, but works collaboratively with Undergraduate Admissions to deliver a variety of recruitment and advising efforts in support of attracting and enrolling an academically strong, culturally diverse and socially conscious undergraduate student population in support of SJSU’s Enrollment Management Plan in the department of Student Outreach and Recruitment.
This position is responsible for advising and counseling all prospective, new, and continuing students attempting to complete Title 5, CSU and University undergraduate admissions and degree requirements; conducts undergraduate admission evaluations and assessments; and actively collaborates with other university staff involved in various aspects of admissions and records processing, to ensure that related processes are completed in a timely manner. The objective in all interactions is to provide customer service and information regarding policies and procedures; to suggest actions that will resolve issues; and to establish cordial and collegial relationships with contacts in the undergraduate admissions unit.
The primary responsibility of the Transfer Admissions Counselor/Recruiter is to represent San Jose State University to prospective students, parents, community college counselors. Working under limited supervision, the position is responsible for maintaining a high level of knowledge regarding CSU admissions policies, with special emphasis on transfer students and non-resident/international policies, procedures, and advising practices. This position maintains a high level of expertise in undergraduate transfer and freshmen admission requirements, processes, and regulations to facilitate quality customer service to ensure enrollment at SJSU.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
A valid driver's license is required for this position. Out of state candidates selected for the position must obtain a State of California driver's license within 10 days of hire in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.
Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.
