We are seeking an ASIC Test & Characterization Engineer with experience in the assembly and test of complex opto-mechanical and electrical sub-systems.

We are looking for a self-motivated Senior System Validation Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering Group in designing and developing exciting new Lidar technology and products. The focus of this role is to develop and validate advanced calibration technique, as well as leading sensor and sub-system level design verification and characterization work. The system Engineer will interact closely with Optics, FW, EE, ASIC and product management groups to validate new technology breakthrough; drive continuous improvement in optical performance and system level image quality.

Specific Job Requirements:

  • Proactively interact with Optical, electrical, ASIC and Firmware group stakeholders to understand the design architecture and expected performance capability; develop and validate solid and innovative calibration method that are production oriented; Work with calibration team for production calibration station development.
  • Design and execute test plans to: verify key Optical/Electrical/FW features; address customer application requirement/concerns; or verify system level range and detectability performance under customized application scenarios.
  • Perform systematic optical and electrical function characterization for opto-electronic components, subassemblies, and different Lidar products.
  • Be responsible for test procedure/setup design, equipment selection and implementation of bench-level, as well as range detection setups.
  • Innovate DOEs to help debug or root cause analysis various Engineering issues during Proof of Concept (POC) and early product development phase.
  • Perform thorough data analysis to draw conclusions and provide valuable guidance for next phase experiment, design, or process improvement; writeup summary report to communicate the results and feedback effectively.
  • Coach Junior Engineers and/or Engineering technicians for solid Engineering practice; help them understand and execute test plans efficiently to ensure valid and high-quality data collection.
  • Be ready to support validation results or conclusions using more than one approach when there is lack of unanimous conclusion, for example facilitating analysis with theoretical calculations or simulations, re-designing DOE from different angle etc.
  • Preferred Education, Knowledge and Experience Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or other Engineering field with 4 years of related industry experience working in product development environment.
  • Working knowledge of opto-electronic and sensor products in a broad disciplinary setting that includes Electrical circuits, ASICs, Optical and mechanical components, and uses embedded system (FW/FPGA) as the brain to bring everything together in making a functional module.
  • Ability to understand system level Lidar/sensor performance.
  • In-depth hands-on experience performing bench level testing and characterization of optical and electronic devices across corner cases.
  • Proven record of designing and executing logically tight experiments to provide quality data and draw meaningful results.
  • Strong problem-solving, diagnosing, and analytical skills.
  • Be resourceful and proactive to work efficiently in cross-functional groups, willing to break down barriers and reach across teams to solve problems.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills along with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Great proficiency in hardware and software tooling that is instrumental for testing and data analysis:
  • Equipment: Voltage/Current source and meters, Fast Oscilloscope, heating/cooling equipment, Optical power meter, attenuator, integrating sphere
  • JMP, Excel, Power Point, Python, MatLab
  • Direct TOF Lidar development and testing experience is a big plus
  • Working knowledge of sensor, transceiver or semiconductor manufacturing process is a bonus: wiring and gluing, packaging, active alignment, in process monitoring and control, end of line functional test
