Microsoft Research is seeking exceptional Research Software Engineer candidates who are interested in developing the next generation of dialog and conversational technologies. We are a small, agile team of field-leading researchers and software developers in the Deep Learning Group at Microsoft Research developing a platform that enables end-users to deploy AI-first conversational systems ("bots"), without any prior training in machine learning. We take a hybrid product/research approach: we put cutting-edge research at the heart of our product and employ the learnings from product usage to fuel our research. We have deep partnerships with multiple product groups. Within Microsoft, our team helps shape company strategy for dialog and conversation. We are also deeply engaged in the world-wide research community, where we regularly publish papers, give talks, and organize workshops and challenge tasks at venues like NIPS, ACL, SIGDIAL, and others.

You will work closely with our partner product/research teams across Microsoft to provide the next generation of tools to build conversational applications. You’ll also have opportunities to get to know our customers and get in a tight feedback loop to know we’re meeting their needs. Our team culture promotes creativity and innovation and we want your unique ideas. We use engineering best practices and ship rapidly so can quickly address customer needs with excellent experiences. We are a small, high-experience team and are looking for a partner who has solid coding skills, and can operate at all levels of detail, spanning strategic thinking to digging into details and getting things done.
